Vitrification technology reduces the volume of low and intermediate-Level waste to 1/20 so that the radionuclide of waste is fundamentally blocked and turned into a vitreous structure during the radioactive waste disposal process. NETEC of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. and France SGN Co. successfully completed research at a demonstration facility at the Daeduk Research Complex after collaborative efforts. The world’s first commercial vitrification facility was built in 2005.
