Hydrogen Mobility
Hyundai Rotem is developing hydrogen mobility technology for a sustainable future. In particular, the hydrogen fuel cell tram to be introduced first in Hyundai Rotem's hydrogen mobility product line is attracting attention as a future public transportation that will be suitable for smooth movement in complex city centers.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Tram, a Hydrogen Mobility for the Future
Hydrogen Fuel Cells produce electricity through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, and demonstrates optimal efficiency even on routes with long driving distances and high operating frequencies. High-density filters inside the hydrogen fuel cell can filter out fine dust.
The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Tram
The hydrogen fuel cell tram is a future transportation with various advantages. Hyundai Rotem's hydrogen fuel cell tram won the iF Design Award 2023 for its excellence design and it is the first time in Korean railway industry to win the global design award. Hyundai Rotem is strengthening technological capabilities related to hydrogen mobility such as hydrogen fuel cell tram and also striving to create an ecosystem for related industries.
Advantages | |
---|---|
Power source | Hybrid method of hydrogen fuel cell and electric battery combination |
Economics | Based on a method of self-powered production, which does not require power supply facilities (tram lines, etc.), and with a low vehicle energy consumption rate, making it advantageous for long-distance driving |
Efficiency | Maximizing efficiency and improving the convenience of moving downtown and traffic congestion in the city center, where it is difficult to construct tram line facilities |
Characteristic | Hydrogen fuel cell system filters fine dust during operation |
Punctuality | Operation of exclusive routes and application of priority signals at intersections |
Convenience | Convenient use for passengers with reduced mobility due to a low-floor structure |
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Tram Demonstration Project
Hyundai Rotem is in charge of a project hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to develop and verify fuel cell systems and major parts for the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell tram.
- Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy / Managed by Hyundai Rotem
- Development of a system and main parts for the use of hydrogen fuel cell tram/parts installed and verified in test vehicles
Hyundai Rotem’s Hydrogen Fuel Cell Mobility Development Roadmap
