Rail Solutions

Signaling

Having achieved the first railway system export in Korea, Hyundai Rotem is now doing its best to develop signaling system technology to ensure the safe transportation of passengers.

Vital asset in maintaining the optimized and safe operation of train services

Hyundai Rotem offers KTCS-M signaling system engineered for urban and light rail, paving the way for fully autonomous train operation. Our diverse portfolio includes the KTCS-2 signaling system, fully compatible with the European ERTMS/ETCS Level2 standards, and the KTCS-3 signaling system, which complies with ERTMS/ETCS Level 3 and incorporates ATO over ETCS functions.

KTCS-M

KTCS-2
Signaling System

KTCS-2 is signaling control system for mainline to which ETCS/ERTMS Level 2 standards are applied. KTCS-2 supports safe train operation by applying service brake and emergency brake profiles according to the standard Through onboard and wayside LTE-R communication, train movement authority control and train positioning are determined.

Features
System development in accordance
with Subset 026 (2.3.0d), the standard applied
to domestic business routes and
SIL 4 certification acquired

KTCS-3 + ATO
Signaling System

KTCS-3 is a signaling control system for mainlines to which ETCS/ERTMS Level 3 standards are applied.
KTCS-3 controls the train by using the moving block control method instead of the fixed block method.
As the moving block control method is applied, the train position is determined by onboard device rather than wayside device. By determining train locations in real time, headway can be shortened, and track capacity and transport capacity can be maximized.

Features
Satisfy European standard general/high
speed train control system specifications
Moving block control and RBC-based
wireless communication train control
Perform train integrity and position
detection in onboard equipment
Schedule compliance and
energy optimization operation
First automatic operation of general/high speed railway in Korea

ATC/ATO
Signaling system

ATC/ATO system is capable of automatic train protection (ATC) and automatic train operation (ATO)
by interfacing with wayside track circuits and wayside installation structure. The ATC/ATO system controls train
overspeed protection by receiving and deciphering the operating speed limit value, and controls automatic train
operation and stop in place through station-to-station speed profiles.

Features
Speed code-based analog ATC system Supports expansion to an RF-CBTC system
(ATC and RF-CBTC sections are
both operational after expansion)
Energy-saving mode enabled
with high-efficiency driving patterns
Dual system ensures system redundancy

SDOU
(Speed Distance Operation Unit)

SDOU is a device developed to enable train speed/distance calculation and correction. Even if a slip/slide
situation occurs, the error can be corrected through the SDOU algorithm to accurately measure
the speed/distance of the train.
